My Story

Dr. George Cromack

Dr. George Cromack

While enrolled in chiropractic school I enjoyed extraordinary health. I was doing periodic juice fasting with blue green algae and was running 60 miles a week and swimming a mile a day. I just felt a natural euphoria almost all the time. Heaps of energy and smile lit my face nearly all the time.

Right after graduation I was run over by a drunk uninsured driver on my bike and dragged down the street under the SUV until my leg got caught in the front wheel while pinned on my back under the car. The driver had 18 beers and dint know he had hit me and was still pressing on the gas pedal. I stalled his car with my leg being torn out of the socket.

Over the next several years my hip joint severely degenerated and I found myself sleeping about 2 hours a night from four to 6 am each night

During the next 7 years I developed deep dark circles under my eyes from exhaustion. I became irritable, depressed, couldn’t follow my normal routines. My doctor gave me opiates which gave me relief for about 3 days and I flushed the bottle of pills down the toilet as I hated the dullness and lethargic feeling they gave me. I tried sleeping pills and hated the hung over feeling I had from them, it felt worse than not sleeping, I self medicated a little bit which made me even more depressed. My work suffered, I lost interest in patients, my relationships suffered with girl friends and fiancés, I became self destructive and wanted to end my life.

Eventually I had orthopedic surgery on my hip which alleviated the pain, but I continued to have insomnia. I was tossing and turning, having trouble falling asleep, waking up during the night, grinding my teeth. The dark circles continued under my eyes. I looked like a raccoon. I felt depressed and tried anti depressants which initially helped with the depression temporarily but stopped them after several months. I felt like I could not heal from the last 7 years of exhaustion without getting into a normal sleep cycle. I decided I had had enough with prescription meds, and did an initial juice fast with blue green algae, followed by an increase in fresh fruits and veggies. Things started to shift. I started doing yoga asanas again, and started doing yogic breathing exercises. I seemed to be on the right track… sleep improved but was still not 7 to 8 hours. I studied Ayurvedic medicine, did a medical fellowship in acupuncture and completed a course in functional medicine and completed a certification to teach yoga and pranayama breath work. From these studies I was able to integrate lifestyle changes, detox protocols, herbs, as well as structure my routine in a way that finally created a synchronicity where I started to sleep a full normal sleep cycle and heal my body. I was also able to experiment with patients and friends that had problems with insomnia over the years and develop a game plan that works, does not cost a lot or involve a lot of time.

As I continued to heal I was able to release my anger towards the person that ran me over. I learned that the experience taught me increased empathy and understanding for patients and clients that were suffering. I became a better healer.

As I started to heal and feel better I realized that there was a whole spectrum of increasing wellness beyond the point of no symptoms which motivated me to continue to improve

I realized that it was the integration of healing mentally, emotionally, and physically that led to a spiritual healing that connected me more fully with the divine.
